Thursday Night Special: We're Not Worthy, where Robb and Eric interview amazing people! We sat down with Jana Riess over a warm cup of Skype to talk about her books, climbing the rope in gym class, the great church shift and translating an over 2000 year old book into 140 character chapters! Jana Riess (ran a piece) is an acquisitions editor, blogger for the Religion News Service (at http://www.religionnews.com/blogs/jana-riess) and is the author, co-author, or editor of many books, includingFlunking Sainthood: A Year of Breaking the Sabbath, Forgetting to Pray, and Still Loving My Neighbor; What Would Buffy Do? The Vampire Slayer as a Spiritual Guide; Mormonism for Dummies; and The Writer’s Market Guide to Getting Published. Her latest book is The Twible: All the Chapters of the Bible in 140 Characters or Less…. Although she is a self-proclaimed spiritual failure and confesses that she was never able to climb the rope in gym class, she DOES has a doctorate from Columbia University and works as an editor in the publishing industry. She speaks often to media about issues pertaining to religion in America, and has been interviewed by the Associated Press, Time, Newsweek,People, the Boston Globe, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, and Newsday, among other print publications, as well as “Voice of America,” the “Today” show, MSNBC, and NPR’s “All Things Considered,” “Tell Me More,” and “Talk of the Nation.” Now however, she’s going to have to update her website’s bio, because she’s adding Pulpit Fiction to that list. We are delighted that Jana agreed to visit with us and talk about her books, her faith, her thoughts on the state of the church today and being spiritual failures. Jana Riess thank you for joining us and welcome to Pulpit Fiction! As we mentioned last year when Cinco de Mayo fell on a Sunday, May 5th is NOT Mexican independence day, but instead celebrates the Battle of Puebla. So have a Happy Cinco de Mayo, sip a Margarita and check out this little video for more info on this special day! Happy Star Wars Sunday! Robb and I thought this video would help all you preachers as you prepare for Good Shepherd Sunday next week. It give all new meaning to "You prepare me a table in the midst of my enemies" :) |
